how your home can support you

The shift into Fall + Winter isn’t always cozy candles and pumpkin spice - sometimes it’s heavy, messy, and hard. Last year, I felt it more deeply than ever before. In true Projector (Human Design) fashion, I did what I do best: I made a list of the things that actually helped me get through it. And because none of us are meant to do life alone, I want to share that list with you. (And a quick caveat: I also worked with a counsellor during this time - support matters.)

Focus on Light + Warmth

  • Maximize natural light: Keep curtains open, trim back any outdoor plants that block windows, and clean glass to let in more brightness.

  • Layer in warm lighting: Add lamps with warm LED bulbs in corners where you typically feel low. Consider a dawn-simulation alarm clock or light therapy lamp.

  • Create cozy zones: Use blankets, candles, or a fireplace (real or electric) to soften darker evenings.

Bring Nature Indoors

  • Bring in greenery: Plants can improve mood and indoor air quality. Even one or two low-maintenance plants (snake plant, pothos) can make a difference.

  • Use natural textures: Wood, wool, stone, or linen accents mimic the grounding effect of nature.

Comfort & Ease

  • Declutter key spaces: A clean entryway, kitchen, or living area reduces stress when motivation is low.

  • Stock comfort kits: Have blankets, tea, puzzles, or favorite books in easy reach for tough days.

  • Winter pantry prep: Keep nourishing soups, easy snacks, and vitamins stocked so meal prep doesn’t feel overwhelming.

Movement + Flow

  • Make space for movement: Clear an area for yoga, stretching, or quick workouts - even 10 minutes matters.

  • Music corner: Create a playlist station (speaker or record player spot) to lift energy when silence feels heavy.

Add Sensory Anchors

  • Scents: Diffuse uplifting oils like citrus or peppermint.

  • Textures: Swap out scratchy blankets for plush, cozy ones.(my fav’s are from Indigo)

  • Sound: White noise, nature sounds, or instrumental playlists can calm racing thoughts.

Intentional Social & Emotional Connection

  • Photo displays: Rotate in happy memories - friends, family, travels - that remind you of joy.

  • Inviting atmosphere: Keep a guest-ready corner (extra mugs, cozy throws) so it’s easy to host small drop-ins.

  • Visible reminders: Post affirmations or gratitude notes where you’ll see them daily

Before I go, I want you to know seasonal changes aren’t just about swapping out sandals for socks - they mess with our moods too. One minute it’s cozy-fall-vibes, the next it’s “Why do I feel like I’m walking through molasses?” Here’s the thing: it’s not you, it’s the season. These shifts are invitations - to slow down, to adjust, to let yourself feel the in-between. If you’re finding it a little heavier than usual, you’re not alone. You are human. Be gentle. This is another season that won’t last forever.

xoxo,

  Krista
