Causes I care about

Each one of the causes that are listed below are near and dear to me. I care about them for the same reason - they all align with my person value of building strong, healthy and vibrant communities.

When you support my business, I want you to know that you also support causes I care about. I believe that giving back to the community on a quarterly basis is one way to remind myself that business is more than just profits and bottom line. It’s also about people and the change we can each be in the world.

Courage for Freedom

I met Kelly Tallon Franklin - a survivor of human trafficking - a few years ago while I was in Montreal for a conference. Her passion and vitality was astounding given her particular experience. I’ve taken training and been involved with her organization, Courage for Freedom, as they take the next step in bringing greater awareness to human trafficking in Canada. There is a lot of misconceptions about human trafficking and as much as we don’t want to think it’s happening here, SK has become a active corridor for human trafficking in Canada.

Why is this important to me? The most significant reason is my daughter. The protective part of this parent wants her to be well equipped and realistic about the world around here. Through my time with Kelly I have learned how to bring up the subject of trafficking with my pre-teen and I have seen the awareness it has brought to her life.

Habitat for Humanity

After starting Beyond Measure, Habitat for Humanity was the first organization I volunteered with. Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit housing organization working in local communities across the country. Their vision is that everyone has a decent place to live.

Why is this important to me? I believe deeply that our homes help build strength and stability for families. That in turn, builds stronger communities. When we have affordable, stable housing families can become more self reliant.

Reconciliation Saskatoon

Reconciliation Saskatoon is a community of organizers, non-profits, businesses, faith-communities and partners who have come together to initiate a citywide conversation about reconciliation and provide opportunities for everyone to engage in the Calls to Action.

Why is this important to me? Reconciliation is a consistent and ongoing process of long term learning (and unlearning) what I have taken for granted as a white woman. Every book I read, every assumption I face head on and every grain of knowledge helps me to be a thoughtful, rounded member of my greater community.

YWCA Women in Trades

This is a 16 week Pre-trades, Pre-Employment Program designed to help 15 women transition from unemployed or underemployed jobs into Construction careers.

Why is this important to me? I work in an industry that is predominately male and my experience has not always been a positive one. This program offers women a chance to experience the trades, build the skills they need and enter these fields with confidence.

Mental Health First aid

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is the support provided to a person who may be experiencing a decline in their mental well-being or a mental health crisis. This training is breaking down the stigma of mental health and providing valuable tools.

Why is this important to me? I have struggled with mental health over the course of my life. By taking this training I’ve increased my confidence and compassion in helping myself and others with this challenging subject.
